The final member of this list? You. Women are the fabric of our brand and our community - everything we do, we do with you and your daily lives in mind. Thank you for being an vital part of our g+d family.
Allison started drinking Apple cider vinegar to help with her stomach problems but she hated the taste and decided to take action. She created a drink that solved her stomach issues AND tasted good while doing it. Soon after, she began sharing the drink with friends and family as well as selling it a the Dallas Farmers Market. Eventually, Whole Foods approached her wanting to sell her product in store. Allison later went on Shark Tank (while 9 months pregnant!!), and secured an investment in her company that allowed it to grow. The poppi brand and Alison's story is a true inspiration to me as a business owner as well as someone who can't drink soda without her stomach feeling like it will explode. Poppi is a gamechanger and a true example of creating the product that you need but can't find in the marketplace. Plus, the root beer poppi is one of my absolute favorite treats. :)
Shop poppi here or in most major grocery stores.
We’ve spoken a ton about Erin as she's one of our g+d besties! Erin grew up with IBS and her symptoms were dismissed from a young age due to a lack of understanding in her small town. As a college student, she became frustrated about her symptoms and the constant pain she experienced due to her body's reaction to various foods. Rather than accepting her situation, she opted to study nutrition, became a dietitian, and spent years figuring out how to help herself, and others, gain control of her symptoms and reclaim her life. She's built an incredible community that I am thrilled to be a part of, and has devoted her life to helping other IBS warriors overcome their symptoms as well. It's an honor to count her as a peer.

Renee Grenon, Founder of The Mom Room Podcast
Renee was in the midst of earning her PhD in psychology when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world. During this time, she began speaking candidly about her experience as a Mom - not polished and pretty, but the realities facing mothers day-to-day from the responsibility of raising children to marriage after babies and beyond. Moms flocked in droves to her social channels and podcast as her relatable content made them feel seen and heard - which is especially critical in the early days of motherhood. Renee has inspired us on the importance of creating a community through honesty and frankness - even when it's a bit uncomfortable. As a new mom myself, this podcast has made me feel less alone, given me a place to learn from those who've already experienced what I am experiencing, and most importantly allowed me to laugh through some of the tough moments.

From the comfortable waistband to the flattering and trend-forward fit, I've been living in my jeans when the occasion calls for them. (Though I'll be honest, nothing feels flattering at the moment at 3 months PP - for all the Mamas out there feeling the same, I see you and you're not alone.)

Here’s my day in the life of my mom jeans:

]]>So what makes our jeans so special in the eyes of Hello Postpartum and mom's who have tried them? In short, they are a "wearable magic trick."
From our signature Tummy Technology which is designed to expand yet gently smooth and camouflage the look of bloat to the fabrication that will shape to your body over time, there's a lot to love about our mom-friendly jeans. Available in a timeless slim fit and a more trend-forward girlfriend silhouette, our bloat-friendly jeans do not have any compression and are made in the U.S.A.
Wondering when you can start wearing jeans again after giving birth? While it's totally fine to wear jeans just a few weeks postpartum, the most important thing to keep in mind is your own comfort. Do not rush yourself back into denim if you and your body aren't ready. It's ok to slow down and take your time coming back to you during this time. You will likely have to size up. Do not judge yourself or your body if that is the case - it is completely normal. Most importantly, remember that your journey to healing will be totally unique to you.

]]>Erin has a deep understanding of the body and how it reacts to and processes what you consume. We sat down with her to discuss ALL of your most bloated questions - from her favorite bloat-friendly recipe for the winter months to tips and tricks for combating bloating all year round.
g+d: What causes bloating?
EJ: Bloating can be caused by a variety of factors that are all very personal to you and your body. From hormonal bloating to functional GI disorders, it’s important to work with your preferred medical provider to discover the cause. Once you understand what is causing the bloating, your doctor, a nutritionist, and other registered health professionals can work with you to establish a diet, lifestyle, and/or medical routine to alleviate bloating and other symptoms you may be experiencing. Get more information on why we bloat on my blog here.
g+d: Sometimes taking steps to prevent bloating doesn’t work or isn’t possible. What are your tips and tricks for bloating relief?
EJ: While there are no quick and easy ways to relieve bloating, there are natural remedies that can ease and soothe it. My favorites include increasing my water intake, sipping peppermint tea, relaxing under a heating pad, getting moving (think a low impact activity like walking or a slow yoga practice), or adding ginger to your diet.
g+d: Now that the holidays and cold weather are upon us, what is your favorite bloat-friendy recipe for the season?
EJ: Full of gut-loving plants and fiber, I will be cooking up Fall-Spiced Nourish Bowls all season long. This recipe is a great way to spice up some common veggies you may already have in your grocery haul. I also can’t get enough of this easy, low FODMAP Butternut Squash Soup.

]]>Women come in so many different shapes and sizes. Not to mention how our bodies change throughout our lives. While these variations make us all perfect in our own unique way, they can make finding the perfect fitting jeans a challenge.
Finding the right jeans for you may seem like an impossibility, but there’s nothing better than when you button up a pair that fits like they were made for you. Our denim experts have researched, tested, and approved these 5 simple things to keep in mind when jeans shopping to ensure you find a fit that flatters you. Ready to look and feel your best in your jeans?
1. Keep the Inseam in Mind
The inseam is the length between the top of the leg at the crotch to the bottom of the leg. The bottom of the jean is critical to note as jeans fall at different places on different bodies depending on height. By knowing your preferred inseam you can avoid getting a fit you don’t want - whether your preferred jeans be full-length or cropped at the ankle.
Additional things to consider when selecting an inseam are how you plan to style them (rolled or unrolled) or the shoes you plan to wear with them. When it comes to inseam, you can always get your jeans hemmed by a tailor - so a longer inseam may be your best option. There’s no reason to pass up on a pair of jeans that fit you well just because the inseam is too long.
2. Be Aware of the Rise
The rise of a jean is the length of the fabric between the crotch and the top of the waistband. Traditional rises in denim are high-rise (10 or more inches from crotch to waist), mid-rise (9-11 inches), and low-rise (8 or fewer inches). Each indicates where the waistband on the jeans will fall on your body. Since the distance between your crotch and waist is unique to your body based on height, weight, and other factors, where jeans fall on one woman is NOT where they will fall on all women. As you size up in jeans, the rise also increases to create a proportional, streamlined look across all sizes.
Pay attention to which rises feel best on your body and make you feel your most confident rather than shopping by trend. How a rise fits on you may vary depending on your torso length, so when in doubt measure yourself and keep these numbers in mind when jeans shopping. Of these three rises, mid-rise is the most timeless, but high-rise is a close second.
3. Fabric & Stretch
While it may seem obvious, fabrication is often overlooked when shopping for jeans. Not all denim is created equal. Every blend has its own characteristics that favor structure or stretch. Stretchy jeans allow for a comfortable fit that molds to your figure while structured jeans ensure your denim doesn’t become shapeless and sag. The BEST jeans walk the delicate line between both of these properties. Denim grows - but with high-quality stretch properties, it also recovers. This is key to finding the best jeans for you.
Your first instinct when jeans shopping may be to opt for the pair that feels most comfortable when you pull them on. Since denim stretches over time to mold to your body, it’s likely that your best fit when you first put them on will end up sagging and being too baggy over time. Always try on a size down in jeans before opting for a pair that seems to fit perfectly. With time and wear, a size smaller will likely fit better for longer.
When is sizing down not the best option? Do not select a size down if that lower size cuts into your skin, is nearly impossible to button, or is difficult to breathe in. The perfect jeans should be snug on your hips and waist, should not slide down while you move or walk, will relax as you go about your day, and when you take them off, they should recover closer to their original fit. NOTE: No jean will ever recover 100%.
4. Fit and Body Shape
Not all jeans flatter all body types. If you’re looking for the best jeans for you, this is something to bear in mind. Consider your body type and use other elements of your outfit to create a trend-forward look. Here are the best jeans by body type:
Rectangle
A rectangular body shape is slim through the body with little to now curves - your shoulders, bust, hips, waist have little difference in width. The best jeans for a rectangle body shape will define your silhouette and balance the top and bottom of your body. When shopping for denim for a rectangular body type seek out bootcut, slim/straight, wide leg, skinny or flared jeans. Both the Girlfriend Jeans and the Slim Jeans would work well for this body type.
Apple
An apple body shape features shoulders and a bust that are larger than the hips and a waist that is not defined. Apple body types typically have great legs and most often wear at least one size bigger in their tops than their bottoms. When shopping for jeans for an apple body type, look for styles that will create long lines and draw the gaze outward away from the hips. The best jeans for an apple shape are bootcut, straight leg, wide leg, flare, and skinny. Our Slim Jeans would be the best ginger + dandelion denim for you.
Inverted Triangle
An inverted triangle body shape has broad shoulders and/or a broad bust with a narrow waist and even more narrow hips. These features together create the look of an upside down triangle. Great denim for an inverted triangle body will add volume to the hips and legs to create a more balanced look. The best jeans for an inverted triangle body shape are bootcut, wide-leg, straight, and flare. The Girlfriend Jean by ginger + dandelion would work best for this body type.
Pear Shape
A pear-shaped body type’s hips and bottom are wider than their shoulders and bust. If you carry most of your weight in the lower half of your body, you are likely pear-shaped. When jeans shopping, look for denim that slightly gets wider or falls straight down in a curvy fit. The best denim for a pear shape bodies are straight leg, boot cut, wide leg, and flare. The ginger + dandelion Girlfriend Jeans would work well for this body type.
Hourglass
An hourglass body type is characterized by a bust and hips being nearly equal measurements and a narrow waist - much like the shape of an hourglass. When dressing an hourglass figure, the best denim is a style that highlights your narrow waist - especially jeans with a high rise. The best jeans for an hourglass figure are slim, skinny, wide leg, flared, bootcut, or straight leg. Lucky you - both our Girlfriend Jean and our Slim Jean will work well on an hourglass body type.
5. Your Personal Measurements
If you take ONE thing away from this article, let it be this: Always consult a brand’s size guide against your personal measurements before making a purchase. This goes for tops, jeans, dresses - everything! While there are general industry standards, no two brands are exactly alike when it comes to sizing and their size guides may hold the key to finding a fit that works best for you.
When considering the best jeans size for you, have a list of your waist, hip, and inseam measurements on hand to reference against the sizing chart. If you fall between two sizes in pants or jeans, prioritize what will fit best in the hips over your waist. Very few jeans end up sitting directly at your waist depending on their rise, and so selecting jeans based on your waist measurement alone may lead to a poor fit.
Straight fit vs. Curvy fit
Pay attention to fit. Brands may offer a straight fit (i.e. the industry standard for jeans) or a curvy fit (this is a newer fit that works best for those who are pear shaped, have an hourglass figure, or are just built curvier.) Ginger + dandelion’s jean collection currently represents a straight fit sizing with plans to eventually expand. While rectangular body types may fit our current selection best, curvy girls can find their best fit in ginger + dandelion by sizing down so that the relaxed waist fits better.
When it comes to finding the perfect jeans for your body type, the ultimate goal is comfort and confidence. Embrace your individuality, celebrate your body (especially when it’s bloated!), and rock jeans that make you feel like a million bucks. The size really doesn’t matter.

Why bloat-friendly jeans?
I loved wearing jeans - I wore them all the time, but after being diagnosed with IBS and Celiac disease, wearing them became so uncomfortable I couldn’t stand putting them on my body. Dealing with bloating made finding comfortable jeans a real challenge. The limited options were extremely frustrating. That's when the idea for Tummy Technology™ was born.
Our mission is simple: to empower women to feel comfortable, look beautiful and be confident in their jeans - even when bloated. We understand the struggles and insecurities that come with bloating, and we wanted to provide a solution that prioritizes YOU, without compromising on style.
How do your jeans fit?
Our jeans feature a relaxed waistband, providing a slightly roomier fit in the waistband compared to traditional jeans. If you often experience tight waistbands while the rest of the jeans fit perfectly, ginger + dandelion jeans were made for YOU.
Is your fabric really stretchy?
Some jean fits are more stretchy than others based on the denim we use. Our Slim jean offers a bit more stretch, making it ideal if you're looking for a flexible fit that hugs your body. On the other hand, our Girlfriend fit provides a relaxed and comfortable feel, perfect for those seeking a more laid-back style. Whichever option you choose, both are incredibly comfortable and designed to make you feel amazing. To be honest, they are so different from each other, you’ll probably want both!
Do your jeans have compression?
Our jeans are not about compression. We've crafted them to visibly reduce bloating without any squeezing or discomfort. Our Tummy Technology™ is gentle yet effective, ensuring you can move freely and feel at ease all day long.
Are ginger + dandelion jeans like jeggings?
There is a time and place for jeggings, maternity pants and sweatpants. But nothing can replace the confidence and swagger of a women in her denim jeans. g+d jeans make you feel like a million bucks by embracing the natural ebbs and flows of bloating. They're built to be comfortable, stylish, and timeless.
What jeans are your styles inspired by?
We've created timeless styles inspired by classics. The Girlfriend jean is inspired by the iconic vintage Madewell and Levi 501 jeans. The Slim fit is reminiscent of the Le Skinny Frame jean. What sets our jeans apart and makes them so unique is our unwavering focus on bloating comfort with our proprietary Tummy Technology™.
What is Tummy Technology™?
Tummy Technology™ is the heart and soul of our jeans. We invented features that allow your jeans to feel comfortable even when you're bloated. Our features lie in the waistband and in a secret panel. The waistband lays flat on your stomach without digging into your stomach; and our panel expands to accommodate your tummy, gently smoothing and reducing the visibility of bloating.
What fits will you start off with?
We designed a Girlfriend jean with a relaxed fit that comes in our Sky wash, a beautiful worn-in light denim; and a Slim fit with a close-to-body silhouette in our River wash, a beautiful crisp medium denim.
What sizes will you carry?
Our jeans are available in sizes ranging from 24” to 34”. Check out our sizing chart for the Slim jean and the Girlfriend jean. As we grow, we will offer curvy fits, additional rises, inseams and styles.

- The ginger + dandelion team
Loved my postpartum moms and women with stomach issues, our jeans are made for the 75% of women who struggle with bloating and are having a difficult time finding jeans. Tummy Technology™ was designed for us.
Tummy Technology™ is the heart and soul of our jeans. We invented features that allow your jeans to feel comfortable even when you're bloated. Our features lie in the waistband and in a secret panel. Every body bloats differently and there are different types of bloating. If you’re trying to figure out what to wear when you’re bloated, you might want to start by figuring out what type of bloating you’re dealing with.
The reality is, what you are wearing for mild bloating is not what you are wearing during a flare up bloating. BUT the goal is the same, to be happy and as comfortable as possible, in your clothes.
1. Wearing layers - layers are amazing at elevating your outfit and disguising your bloating. There are so many layering options such as blazers, cardigans, sweatshirts...
2. Accessorizing your outfit - throwing on a necklace, rings and/or earrings is comfortable, easy and instantly adds polish to your outfit. Even when you are wearing sweatpants, wearing cute gold hoops does a lot for your outfit!
When you are experiencing mild/medium bloating, even though you don’t feel well, there are tons of things you can wear to feel comfortable and look great to help yourself feel better. It does wonders for your confidence when you are comfortable and happy with what you are wearing.
Dresses - you may opt for an a-line dress, wrap dress, skater dress, whatever works for your body shape and that you love wearing. Even if it’s cold, most likely, you can tolerate wearing comfortable tights when you are experiencing mild/medium bloating. I prefer tights with a thick comfortable waistband, I like the mid rise, 6 1/2 waist, light compression, Sheertex tights.
Jeans - We designed the first-ever bloat-friendly jeans. Our jeans are comfortable on your tummy, letting your bloat breathe, while visibly reducing bloating. Our exclusive Tummy Technology™ features a contour waistband that expands comfortably to make room for a bloated tummy, while an inner panel gently smooths and reduces the visibility of bloat. Join our waitlist.
Pants - elasticated trousers and drawstring pants are both great options. They are comfortable and you can dress them up or down. My favorite elasticated waists are when there is elastic in the back, but not in the front. It gives good movement without squeezing my stomach. Sweatpants are an obvious option and some people love yoga pants!
When your bloating is extreme, I would make some adjustments to your outfit. I know we’d all like to sit on the couch with a heating pad during a flare up, but that isn’t always an option. There are some great, comfortable and stylish outfits you can wear.
Dresses - tent dresses, tiered dresses, sheath dresses, again whatever is loose, comfortable and flattering for your body type. When I’m in a flare up and I need to dress up, I wear a dress ONLY if I don’t have to wear tights. If it is cold and tights are needed, I nix the dress.
Pants - elastic waist trousers and drawstring pants are critical when you are experiencing a flare-up. Typically, I want to wear something that is loose and not clingy to my body. I ditch the skinny fits during a flare up. If it is linen season, linen pants are great! They are breathable and are very comfortable during bloating and flare ups.
Sweatpants - If I don’t have to dress up, I’m wearing my Vuori joggers with an elastic and drawstring waistband. ‘Nuff said.
Jeans - I started a bloat-friendly jean company and we designed the most comfortable jeans and even I wouldn’t wear jeans during a flare-up because my stomach expands 3-5+ inches and it is very painful. I opt for very loose fitting clothing or sweatpants during a flare-up.
Our bodies are constantly changing, especially for us ladies that deal with bloating. Don’t get discouraged, there IS a way to feel comfortable and stylish in your clothes, even when you are bloated!
Dealing with bloating is time consuming, mentally draining and painful. Find the little things that you can do to make you happy and keep your confidence high on those dreaded bloat days. It makes a huge difference.
Being beautifully bloated is to dress comfortably for your lifestyle, look good, feel confident and most importantly, be happy!
I spent time trying to get to the root of the problem so I can fix whatever was happening and get my confidence back. I spoke to my friend who’s an executive coach about what was going on. I told her that I was so much more confident in my corporate life than I was running my own business. In corporate I ran a large department, at a huge company, headquartered in New York City. I knew it would be different being on my own without a huge team and a corporate budget, but I needed to be able to access some of that confidence again.
She asked me to tell her about a time when I was super confident in my previous corporate life. My mind immediately went to this one particular meeting, I saw it so clearly. I painted the picture for her and then she asked me “what were you wearing?” I was confused. I thought she was going to ask me about the presentation (I was already preparing the pitch in my head!) but she asked me about my clothing.
I thought it was strange but I answered her since I knew exactly what outfit I was wearing. PS: it was a freggen baller outfit. I was wearing a navy wrap dress that fit me so well (despite my bloating because guess what, I was bloated then too!), cute nude peep toe heels and gold jewelry. To accent my outfit I remembered I was carrying my notebook and tons of PowerPoint and Excel documents (yes we printed out PowerPoint documents back then instead of carrying around a laptop).
When she heard how excited I got explaining my outfit, she told me that she thinks there is something there and I need to explore it… I remember exactly what she said… “how you present yourself to the world, makes you feel good.”
She was on to something. I was never the person who took long time getting ready, with a full face of makeup and perfectly done hair, but I did always want to feel good in my clothes. I took what she said to heart and kept exploring it. The only problem was that I didn’t want to wear fancy clothes anymore, especially because I work from home and it would be pretty out of character for me to wearing a dress and heels in my home.
That’s when I realized something.
It doesn’t matter about wearing fancy clothing or whether I was bloated or not…what mattered was that I needed to wear something that I felt good in, that made me happy, and then the confidence came.
And that is how the concept beautifully bloated came to life. The key to being beautifully bloated is to dress comfortably for your lifestyle, look good, feel confident, and most importantly, be happy!
Get access to Beautifully Bloated, our bloat-friendly style guide. We worked with a stylist (who also deals with bloating) to provide inspiration and tips on what to wear when you’re bloated.
So to be honest here, the answers is: wear whatever you want! Something that makes you feel good, comfortable and confident. But if you are in a style rut and don’t know what to wear because of your forever-changing bloated-tummy, we are here to help!
The goal is to wear something with the least amount of pressure on your waist while trying to disguise your bloat. To phrase it more positively, it’s to feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing, and highlight the parts of your body that are your assets and disguise the things that don’t make you happy, your bloating.
There are so many bloat-friendly outfits that will have you feeling comfortable and looking stylish, even on those bad bloat days. Bloated fashion and bloat-friendly fashion isn’t broadly discussed, but 75% of women deal with bloating! We are helping talk about this issue so more women don’t feel alone when they are struggling with what to wear when they are bloated.
You will want to have your flare up outfits, and your daily everyday bloat outfit, because let’s be honest, they are two totally different kinds of bloating!
Layers
Layering gives you the option to take off and put on clothing as you need. They add depth to your outfit for a chic and polished look and they are amazing at concealing bloating. Blazers, cardigans, shackets, they all work and look great!
Dresses
There are so many dresses that have a flattering silhouette that will give your stomach room to breathe without sacrificing style. Choose a silhouette that highlights your shape by accentuating your bust or waist!
High rise or mid-rise pants/trousers
Everyone bloats differently, so depending on your bloat, you will determine which rise is most comfortable for you. Typically mid-rise is most comfortable for most, but that is up to you to figure out! Elasticated waist in the back are super comfortable for those bad bloat days.
Tops
Peplum tops, tunics, oversized tees and button downs are all great top options when you are bloated. In order to not look frumpy, make sure you are playing with proportions by choosing a loose fit for your top and tighter bottoms or vice versa. You can also add instant polish by adding a belt or a French tuck. If you wear an off the shoulder or a fun neckline, it draws attention to your neck, chest, instead of your tummy!
Let’s talk more about proportions!
If you are wearing a baggier top or dress, wear a (loose) belt around your waist to show off your shape. This will keep you feeling comfortable and showing off your body, while disguising your bloating.
Accessorize
Another bloat-friendly tip is to accessorize. You will instantly elevate your outfit, comfortably, by adding accessories.
I’ve found that having 10 or so key bloat-friendly pieces per season, helps me get dressed in the morning. Once you’ve found your 10 pieces, keep cycling through those. They are guaranteed to make you feel good and look good when you are bloated, because you’ve picked them for a time like this!
No one wants to be bloated but it happens! I’ve learned how important it is to not only take care of yourself from a health and nutrition perspective, but taking care of your mental state is equally as important; and fashion wellness is a subset of that. Dressing comfortably and stylish can bring a new sense of confidence to people who may have lost it during their bloating journey.
I used to spend so much money on clothes that I thought I should buy, outfits that would make me look like someone I was not. I would wear things that were so tight and uncomfortable because I thought that is what I was supposed to do. Now that I’ve accepted my bloating and my body, I just want to feel comfortable, in clothes that are practical that fit my lifestyle, and most of all, clothes that make me happy.
My advice on bloat-friendly fashion: If you feel good in what you’re wearing and it works for you, don't change it! But IF you don’t feel good in what you are wearing, you’re clothes are uncomfortable and you feel like you are lacking style, invest some time and energy in updating your wardrobe so you feel good. The goal of bloated fashion is to feel good, comfortable and happy in your clothes, despite your bloating. If thats something that you’re looking for, we are here to help you.
Dress for your body shape. Discover your body shape, and choose clothing that highlights your assets.
Pay attention to proportions. Proportions are what can bring your outfit from frumpy to stylish.
Build a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe requires a bit of work up front, and then it is a plug and play system. All of the items in your closet you love, fit you and you know what outfits to create with them. It makes looking stylish and feeling comfortable, quick and easy for all occasions.

The holidays are over and now it’s cold. You’re trying to figure out what to wear to keep warm, feel comfortable, and look stylish — and of course, that is bloat-friendly. Below are our top 3 bloat-friendly picks for winter 2023. We’re all about the timeless pieces so you can keep them on repeat year after year.
We believe women should wear what makes them happy. We are here to give suggestions to women that are looking for bloat-friendly options. We believe all women should feel comfortable, be confident and look beautiful in their clothes.
Here are 3 go-to styles for you this winter:
Scarves
Scarves are in. You must be saying when are they not in?! Which is fair, but in 2023 they are totally in. Leverage them! Use them to style, disguise, keep warm, all of the good things.
Cable knit sweaters
We are loving cable knits, the perfect winter wardrobe staple you can keep wearing year after year. The cable details on the sweater draw your eye to the pattern, and helps disguise bloating.
Blazers
Blazers that were once a boardroom staple are now everywhere. Throw a blazer over a dress, pants, jeans or even your favorite sweatpants. Blazers will instantly elevate your outfit. Layers are a key part of bloat-friendly fashion!

I always loved jeans. I remember when I saved up to buy my first pair of designer jeans: the Dojo Sevens and I didn’t take them off until they had so many holes in them—even I who loves distressed jeans— knew it was too much and I needed to retire them. Towards the end of my Dojo Sevens run, I was diagnosed with my first stomach issue which was the beginning of several diagnoses, celiac disease, IBS-C, the list goes on. Anyone that has a stomach issue or good ol’ PMS knows the painful bloating that comes along with it. It is not fun. This affected my life significantly; including my wardrobe and more specifically, my jeans. My bloating made jeans feel so uncomfortable. They put so much pressure on my stomach that no matter how much I loved their look, I started to hate wearing them.
After my first diagnosis, I tried so many things to make jeans comfortable. First, I sized up from my typical size to make sure they were comfortable around my waist. I wore a belt when I wasn’t bloated and took the belt off as I became bloated. It worked, but the rest of the jean didn’t fit well. My butt was nowhere to be found and my legs were swimming in the extra denim. I desperately wanted to figure out a way to make jeans work for my body without being so uncomfortable. Then I realized, I’ll just buy the same pair of jeans in 2 sizes but the main issue wasn’t solved: the size I was in the morning wasn’t the same size by the afternoon. Eventually, I had no choice but to stop wearing jeans. I had to give up on the #1 wardrobe staple and I was so bummed.
What was I looking for? I thought it was pretty simple:
A COMFORTABLE and STYLISH classic 5 pocket, zipper-fly-and-button-jean. One that I can wear morning until night, be able to sit and stand in, that wasn’t a jegging or a maternity jean. I didn’t want anything squeezing my stomach, because, well I had enough digestion issues and didn’t need to make myself even more uncomfortable.
I searched everywhere for bloat-friendly jeans, but they didn’t exist. For years, I thought I was the only one whose bloating made me stop wearing jeans. It turned out it wasn’t just me.
That’s why ginger + dandelion was born!
I reached out to Christine Rucci, world-famous denim designer known as the Godmother of denim and we co-created the first-ever bloat-friendly jeans. Christine was no stranger to bloating and she literally is the Godmother of denim—she has been designing denim for top brands for over 30 years!
Both of us were (unfortunately) bloating experts and we worked together to make jeans for women who bloat, by women who bloat! ginger + dandelion’s proprietary Tummy Technology™ gives you the perfect fit comfortably on your tummy, letting your bloat breathe, while visibly reducing bloating.
Our bodies are complex and dynamic, so are our jeans. To all of the women who’ve had to quit jeans; we’ve got your back.

Bloating is a condition where you’re belly feels full and tight. Have you ever had a big meal and you feel uncomfortably full after? Or have you noticed when you’re on your period your pants fit a little big tighter? That’s from a bloated stomach.
The days you wake up bloated, I found being intentional about what clothes I put on my body makes me feel a little better. The clothes you put on your body sets the tone for the day. Why be uncomfortable when you’re already uncomfortable? Why look frumpy if it makes you feel less confident? When you put on something that feels comfortable on your body and looks good on your body, you feel more confident as you go about your day. Embrace your bloat instead of letting your bloat control you.
But remember, the key to being beautifully bloated is to dress comfortably for your lifestyle, look good, feel confident and most importantly, be happy!
Here are 3 quick tips on styling when bloated:
Add jewelry. You can wear a tee, joggers and sneakers, but by adding jewelry, you will instantly elevate your outfit.
Wear a blazer. Blazers are classic, chic and comfortable. By adding a blazer to your outfit, you are adding a comfortable layer that looks stylish.
Love dresses. Dresses are so comfortable, stylish and are an incredible bloat-friendly option. There are so many different styles for all body types like A-line, babydoll, tent, tunic, wrap, smock and skater dresses.
And… a bonus surprise!
At ginger and dandelion, we created the first bloat-friendly jeans to help you feel comfortable in your jeans on those bloat days. Our first collection comes out Spring 2023!
Last month, I posted a question to Reddit asking the female fashion group what they like to wear when they are bloated so we can share the responses with you. Within 15 hours there were over 400 comments! Today we are going to share the bloat-friendly black pant favorites.
It was so fun to see that some responses overlapped with my favorites! I live in the U.S. on the east coast so it is pretty cold right now and I’ve been living in the One Quince Cashmere Sweatpants.
In addition to the list below, people also loved a wide leg wool pant, but all of the recommendations were sold out.
If you scroll until the end, you will see the special bloat-friendly project that we have been working on here at ginger + dandelion.

In the meantime, we worked with a stylist (who also struggles with bloating!) to design a style guide to help you look stylish and feel comfortable when you’re bloated.
The more people I speak to, they think bloating is something that is just happening to them. No way! Bloating is real and clothes fit differently on your body when you’re bloated. From stomach issues stemming from underlying conditions like IBS, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, endometriosis, or hormonal changes like perimenopause, PMS, post pregnancy or IVF cycles, or just from eating a big meal, all contribute to bloating. Either way, dressing our bodies accordingly, help us feel comfortable and more confident as we go about our day.
One wardrobe staple that the bloated community isn’t happy with: their jeans. Do you ever notice when you put on your jeans on a day you are feeling bloated sets the tone for a day filled of frustration and being uncomfortable? We created the first-ever bloat-friendly jeans. Get on the list!
So many of us experience different life events whether it be, PMS, post pregnancy, menopause, autoimmune diseases, etc… that makes us bloat. Personally, I struggle with IBS, celiac disease and endometriosis, and I’m frequently bloated.
Previously I thought the only thing I can do is 1. Be uncomfortable in my clothing or 2. Wear sweatpants… but there IS a third option. There are so many different bloat-friendly styles you can wear when you are bloated that make your body feel comfortable and you looking good and feeling confident.
When you start to explore different fits, your clothes should be aligned with your body shape. For example, if you have broad shoulders, balance them with a wide pant leg. When you are creating your bloat-friendly wardrobe, you will build on top of the pieces that complement your body shape.
However, there are many bloat-friendly outfit concepts that are the same despite your body shape:
First, avoid tight clothing. It seems obvious but sometimes we are trying to put on tighter jeans or shape-wear to disguise our tummy. This will feel more uncomfortable. Instead opt for something looser.
The key to wearing looser fitting clothing is to make sure you understand your proportions and fit so you don’t look frumpy. For example, you always want one-third on the top or two-thirds on the bottom (pants & top), OR two-thirds on top and one-third on the bottom (a dress). What you don’t want to do is divide yourself in half - that is where part of the frumpy look comes from! You also want to make sure you are wearing clothing that fits your body.
Second, wear darker colors. They are slimming, stylish and timeless and will help you disguise bloating and keep you feeling confident.
Third, accessorize! Jewelry is a fun and easy way to add stylish details to your outfit. They pull your eye towards the jewelry and away from your tummy.
The number one rule, don’t be embarrassed or ashamed when you are bloated, it happens to SO many of us. Some bloating is normal and some bloating should be examined by a medical professional. But remember, the key to being beautifully bloated is to dress comfortably for your lifestyle, look good, feel confident and most importantly, be happy!
Let me set the scene... you wake up not feeling well and you know it's going to be a bad bloat day. You have a bunch of work meetings and dinner plans scheduled for the day and unfortunately you can't crawl back into bed with a heating pad.
You get out of bed and do all the things to help yourself feel better and get rid of your bloating: you drink water with lemon, take a walk, do light stretches, take a hot shower and now you're ready to get dressed. You can't imagine putting something tight on your body and you decide you want to wear a shift dress, but the last time you wore it you looked frumpy.
You put on the dress and take a look in the mirror - same thing, you look like frump city. When your outfit is looking frumpy, one of the problems you're facing is that you're not defining your waist, which is typically the smallest part of your torso. In this case for me, a shift dress on a rectangular body shape looks like a muumuu.
Want to know a bloat-friendly fashion tip to look stylish?
If I add a belt to my waist (not my stomach) it will give me some shape making the outfit more chic and still hiding my bloated stomach. Take a look at the pictures below.
Bottom line, when you think your outfit looks frumpy and notice that your outfit isn't defining your waist, find a comfortable belt in whatever material, and style it around your waist. This will help show off your shape so you look and feel beautiful, even though you are bloated. Another words, beautifully bloated 😉

Many of us like working from home for obvious reasons, no commute, less stop and chats, more time with your kids, all that jazz. I love working from home but I do (occasionally) miss being in an office. I miss the sense of community, seeing my colleagues and all the fun banter after you’ve worked a long ass day. But working in the office was rough for someone like me with stomach issues. I started working from home after Covid with my corporate job and then permanently after I started my own business and it was such a game changer! Either way, there are so many bloat-friendly outfits you can wear both in the office and at home!
🚽Bathroom things. My commute was anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours. During those two hours I would drink a cup of coffee and towards the end of the trip, let’s just say it was a borderline emergency to get to the office and get to the bathroom. NYC traffic is never fun but this emergency made it even worse and I got to play this daily game for years! Now that I’m working from home, I’m free to poop when I want!
🔥Heating pad. For years I would sit at my desk or in a meeting in pain from bloating... you know the drill. Now, working from home I can use my heating pad any time, any day. In fact, I have a heating pad on right now! Can you tell :)?
🥗Lunch. You would think being celiac in New York City you would have lunch options right? Nope. After several years, there was ONE place I could eat lunch safely (safely for me meant eating gluten and dairy free). Now I can make a salad, pizza, sandwich, basically anything I want for lunch; you name it, I make it!
🍴Work dinners. Lucky for me, my colleagues were great at making sure I was able to eat if we had a work dinner. What ended up happening is that I dragged people to the same restaurant for 13 years. Now, I drag my husband to the same 4 restaurants near our house but mainly make dinners at home so I can eat anything gluten and dairy free that I want!
🍸After work drinks. Let’s be honest, I love an after work drink BUT we would always say we were going out for “one” and 3 drinks later… people would grab a slice of pizza and I would be starving, getting back home at around 11pm, to cook dinner and wake up the next morning at 6am… Now I can plan what I'm going to eat before drinks.
👖Dressing myself. I did get pretty good at dressing bloat-friendly when I worked in the office (hint: lots of dresses and fleece lined tights when it got colder) but being at home allows me to wear all the comfy clothes I want 🙌
I do miss being in the office but working from home is much better for my bloated issues! If you do need to go into the office, remember to take care of yourself and make sure you're doing and dressing in what makes you comfortable!
Xo,I’ll be honest here, for a while I had to quit wearing jeans because of my stomach bloating issues. They were so tight around my waist, it was so uncomfortable. On my really bad flare-up days my best bloat-friendly outfit options are sweatpants or dresses. On my sweatpant days, I discovered something... if I add some pizazz, it instantly elevates my look and makes me feel so much better! Here are some tips:
💎Add jewelry
Jewelry is easy, simple and really adds a wow factor to your outfit. It doesn’t even need to be complicated. A delicate hoop, layered necklace or fun rings are perfect to dress up your sweatpant look.
👜Wear a chic bag
I gave up my big tote days after commuting to the city. Now I grab a cute cross body or bucket bag to add to my outfit. Also, fanny packs have made a comeback. There are some really cute fanny packs out right now that you can wear across your chest, that even gives you some extra tummy coverage, plus they are super chic and comfortable.
👟Put on cute kicks
Put on that cute converse high top, white tennis shoe or a bold sneaker. Whatever makes you feel good when you look down at your feet. Also, I’m now a Birkenstock fan (sorry to those who aren’t) but they are so comfortable, really cute and make me happy.
👒Throw on a hat
“We’re here to tell you that hats are back” but not always the fancy type of hat Rachel Green is referring to, but hats do work magic. They give you an extra accessory while they keep you feeling low key and are awesome at hiding a bad hair day.
👚Layer up
I almost always reach for my Patagonia jacket right by the door, which is fine but I'm not always on a hike. Instead, if I wear my corduroy shacket, leather jacket, suede jacket...any cute jacket or over shirt, my outfit is instantly dressed up. If it's summertime, I typically wear a button down or shacket for the AC.
Lastly, are you going for all black or a pop of color? This all depends on your mood. The days where I want to hide when I'm super bloated, I dress in all black. Plus let's be honest, I was a NYC girl so all black has always been my thing. But now I'm learning, a pop of color is always fun!
Searching for jeans to wear when you’re bloated?
At ginger and dandelion, we created the first bloat-friendly jeans to help you feel comfortable in your jeans on those bloat days. Our first collection comes out Spring 2023!
In the previous blog I spoke about why comfy clothes mean so much to me. From having celiac disease, allergic to dairy and having endometriosis, my bloated stomach constantly controls me and I really needed to find a way to feel comfortable everyday (without just wearing a Grateful Dead t-shirt and sweatpants). *Spoiler alert* in my opinion, you can find things that make you look good and feel great, even when you're bloated.
First, lets talk about my ‘oh no no’ list. The main rule here is to avoid anything form fitting so you aren't in pain.
The treat yo'self list. The main rule is to wear clothing without any restrictions!
Pro tip: The fabric you wear can also help alleviate uncomfortable wardrobe issues. Make sure you wear something with breathable fabric, your body will thank you.
I’m Nicole Berger, the bloated b*itch (shout out to my Kelly Kapoor fans), and well, I’m constantly bloated. From being celiac, having a dairy allergy, struggling with endometriosis, and still indulging in my wine, scotch and coffee, I constantly struggle with a bloated tummy. What I want to talk about is my new venture, ginger + dandelion and how we are normalizing bloat-friendly fashion.
Being a person who's beautifully bloated, (my friend told me I can’t call myself the bloated b*tch, a healthy mindset is everything!) whenever I shop for myself, I need to make sure the fit works for my body, (typically a bloated stomach and skinny legs) I'm comfortable, (which is always a priority for me) and it looks good (for obvious reasons).
I would have to imagine I’m not the only one out there, whether it be pms, ibs, crohn's disease, etc., having to figure out how to dress in a comfortable and stylish way when you’re having a bad tummy day. So I want to help all you other beautifully bloated ladies feel comfortable, look beautiful and be confident in your clothing.
